The Heart-throb of Kollywood : Rajnikanth

Rajinikanth

Rajnikanth — the name says it all. He is one of the outstanding actors of the Indian cinema who shakes the audience with a nod.

Rajnikanth lost his mother at the age of five. He struggled a lot during his early age because of poverty. He began his career doing various jobs in Bangalore. He also attended a theatre for stage plays. Before starting his career in the film industry, he worked as a bus conductor in Bangalore. His ardent love for acting drew him to the film industry.

Starting off with a career where Rajnikanth had no ‘godfathers’ around was always difficult. And when he joined the Tamil film industry, he struggled for years — to pay his room rent, to commute in Chennai and to be simply accepted as an actor. He was a villain in his initial films opposite to Kamal Hassan. The film critics of the 1970’s found Rajnikanth a cruel joke. However he swam across the flows and difficulties.

Today Rajnikanth is a rare phenomenon in terms of commercial success of films. Critics attribute his success to his mysterious

ability to identify himself with the common folk.
