Prayer is Like a Telephone
Each Sunday the minister called the children to the front of the church while he told them a story. One day, he brought a telephone to better illustrate the idea of prayer. “You talk to people on the telephone and don’t see them on the other end of the line, right?” he began. The children nodded yes. “Well, talking to God is like talking on the telephone. He’s on the other end, but you can’t see him. He’s listening, though….”Just then a small boy piped up and asked, “What’s his number?”
Prayer is power…. Prayer is not only worship; it is also an invisible emanation of man’s worshiping spirit–the most powerful form of energy that one can generate. The influence of prayer on the human mind and body is as demonstrable as that of secreting glands. Its results can be measured in terms of increased physical buoyancy, greater intellectual vigor, moral stamina, and a deeper understanding of the realities underlying human relationships. If you make a habit of sincere prayer, your life will be very noticeably and profoundly altered. Prayer stamps with its indelible mark our actions and demeanor. A tranquility of bearing, a facial and bodily repose are observed in those whose inner lives are thus enriched. Within, the depths of consciousness a flame kindles. And man sees himself. He discovers his selfishness, his silly pride, his fears, his greed his blunder. He develops a sense of moral obligation, intellectual humility. Thus begins a journey of the soul toward the realm of grace.
