Inside Hrithik Roshan’s sea-facing Mumbai home that has a monkey bar and a chocolate vending machine

Hrithik Roshan is Bollywood’s bonafide Greek god—a title the world’s gladly presented him with. He, however, is a lot more than just brawn. Roshan is a mild-mannered individual, who loves functional design that’s both empowering and eye-pleasing. A couple of years ago, he personally sat and also continuously texted his architect and interior designer Ashiesh Shah to find the perfect shade of ‘Santorini-inspired blue’ for his house aka a brilliant man cave.

Roshan resides in a sea-facing home in Mumbai’s Juhu. The space boasts multiple bedrooms, a large den that doubles up as a home theatre – replete with a chocolate vending machine, a quaint home office and large surround balconies with minimal foliage and a telescope.

Explaining the concept of the house, Roshan told Shah during the season one of Design HQ that while doing up the space, he also found new depths to himself as a person.

Take a tour of Hrithik Roshan’s house with these pictures:

The living room:

The living room is nautical-themed with minimal accents – shells, corals, a model of a ship and paintings. A huge chess board, design books and flowers usually fill the centre table of the room and also offer a contrast from the blue and white of the space.

The den:

The den, which also doubles us as his favourite spot in the house, boasts pristine white walls along with a white brick wall adorned with a graffiti, low-seated ivory couches, an English telephone booth, a dedicated reading nook in the form of a comfy green chair, a monkey bar to literally hang with his kids, miniature accent pieces in the form of animal figurines and motivational quotes peppered on walls, stones and even frames. The main attraction of the space is a huge chocolate vending machine, which is always stocked.

The home office: The home office is a cosy, tech-savvy space that provides an uninterrupted view of the sea. The space is extremely compartmentalised. It helps Roshan make the most of the space as he told Shah. Similar to the den, the home office also boasts a lot of white space with hints of blue – a specific shade of ‘Santorini-inspired blue.’ It is also peppered with quotes.

Now that you’ve taken a look at Roshan’s house, here are some pro-tips to create a similar space.

Go nautica

Literally translating to the sea, opt for a nautical theme to accentuate the spaces of your house. But don’t go crazy on the blue. Choose a soothing blue that can compliment primary-coloured accents and fill the room with minimal aqua details in the form of seashells or corals.

Keep the texture to a minimum

Instead of opting for texture walls, choose clear colours that help the decor to elevate the space instead of clashing with it. Case in point: the clear blue and white walls of Roshan’s house juxtaposed with grey furniture.

Invest in art, figurines and movables that add value to your life

Much like the vending machine in Roshan’s den, invest in art, figurines and movables that add value to your life. Even though his den’s occupied with a lot of different things, the contrast represents his interests instead of a clutter.

Get movable furniture

Everything in Roshan’s den is movable (except the monkey bar). Movable furniture lets you experiment with the space more often.

Add a little quirk

A little quirk in the form of quotes or kitschy figurines can change the entire vibe of the room. Roshan’s white and blue paradise is elevated with the help of zingy collectibles, books and even bobbleheads.
