Fire Waterfall Is Real! California’s Burning Horsetail Waterfall In Yosemite Has Left Us Speechless!
Did your childhood fantasy world ever have a fire waterfall? Lava falling from the highest peaks lighting up the skies is real. The Yosemite National Park in the Sierra Nevada in California is home to one of the world’s most unique wonder. Yosemite’s Horsetail Fall is actually a regular waterfall but, on select days of the year, the sun creates an optical illusion. The water turns to blazing fire under the sun starting winter to early spring.
What Is It
Horsetail Fall’s Fire Fall is the highest fully airborne waterfall in Yosemite. It’s a seasonal waterfall with two distinct streams. Coming from El Capitan mountain, it falls steep for about 1,570 feet spraying a magnificent mist before dropping another 500 feet to touch the ground.

The last two weeks of February turn it into a one-of-a-kind spectacle. With the right weather conditions, blue water turns to orange gold. There shall be no fog, no clouds and no distractions. When the sun takes its rightful place suited for only a select few days every year, magic happens. The sunset should be perfect at a specific angle and water flowing after a good snowmelt. The show is never a sure shot event but generally lasts a week or 10 days.
What’s More
Thousands of people from all over the world come just to watch the magic for the 10 minutes that it lasts. Photographers line the way and a good spot is a walk from where vehicles would leave you. All of this seems worth it when your iris turns into a canvas glowing in the reflection of a what we can only describe as nature’s madness.
