Binduu Chopra : A brief introduction
At 50, I love to continue making friends, as friends give me the freedom to love and fight. I have grown from a wild teenager to a sober wife! I taught for over 8 years and later took to handling administration of a day boarding school in Delhi. I felt there was more to achieve and I went back to studies at 45, to become a certified Clinical Hypnotherapist. I now conduct workshops for children on Mind Power. I have been involved with a lot of anon healings too. God helps people reach me and it gives me my purpose of life.
My age is not just a mere number; my life has been full of gifts, parties and friends. The years behind me have been wonderful. I see how every year blended into the next, and how I have transformed over the years to be where I am today. Happily married to Rajiv and I am blessed with wonderful children, Robin our only child and Nitasha, my DIL.
I give a lot of online counseling to young adults who find me on their own. To set up a work place requires me to have certain Govt. permits in Tanzania, so I wait for my return to India whenever it happens, so that I can have proper establishment for my work. My first love: Street children. I would want to finally retire with them.
I can’t say that I have or do much, as I have never been based at one place. Rajiv has been moving cities because of his job and that make me travel too. I have tried my hands on multiple things and I have enjoyed every bit of it, even if it was for a day. ‘Live in the moment’, is what my spirituality teaches me. But yes, I have spent some quality time with street kids and have plans for near future that I am currently working on.
What motivates you to write? What is the main source of Inspiration?
I have been interacting with a lot of women lately, and couples with relationship issues etc. I have handled a few trauma cases and I feel it’s very important for a woman to voice herself. Often I have found them succumbed to pressures and I personally feel that they have every right to spell out what their needs and wants are. We are today moving at a very fast pace as far as technology is concerned, we dress up in the most modern ways, and live in a trendy life style. Yet, we fail most of the times to accept that a mother is a woman too who was once a girl with dreams, a mother in law is a woman too who has equal rights, as of a young girl today. We often look at them as care -takers and raise eyebrows at their freedom.
I come from a strict background and I was not allowed to move around by my mother, Saroj. My writing started quite early in life when I would write short poems and draw smileys or flowers and do up the bits of paper for my class mates and family. I never went for any formal training or courses to improve on my skills. I did all that I could in my free time after finishing my home tasks from school. That was my way of venting myself through colors that perhaps looked beautiful to all.
I look up to Waris Deiri , a Somalian girl, born in a nomad family and who living amongst goats and camels, ran away from home and today she a famous International Model and a UN spokeswoman on women’s rights in Africa today. I would never run away from home but she motivates me enough to be able to reach women and help them out in the best of my capabilities.
How did you come up with the title? I take no credit for the Title?
We discussed on many names for my book and it was my publisher, Kunal’s idea to name it ‘The Woman’s Code’. I had a mysterious book cover planned but Kunal felt this was more woman oriented and we finally sealed it. I went by his decision on this.
Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
The book is a journey of a girl from 18 years of age to a woman of 40 years, and all that is quoted is all imaginary content. As an Author, I have chosen some places that I could relate to easily or if I were to stand in the woman’s shoe ‘looking through the window waiting for a husband’. It was easy for me to bring out the emotions as I myself got married at 18. Maybe this is one reason that all ask me if it has anything to do with my personal life or event.
If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?
I have to learn from many. I find each Author a mentor. I think a part of every book has touched some chord in me. I would be unfair to many who write, or whose books I read by naming one or two or a few.
Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
Respect the writer for his time and for his work even if his work didn’t bring any meaning to you.
If you were writing a book about your life, what would the title be?
Haha! Interesting, you have made me think! Going with my prankster mind it would be either of the two: (1) ‘Well, That’s me!’ (2) No! I am not… Deepak Chopra.
Do you see writing as a career?
Definitely not, writing is my love. A career bounds you to strict timings and delivery commitments. Love is unconditional and sets you free. Writing is something that I enjoy, and it also conveys positive messages to the society that I shall continue at my will and time.
Can you share a little of your current work with us?
The release of ‘The Woman’s Code’ was a gift that I gave myself on my 50th birthday in November 2013. Prior to that, I have been on continuous travels within India holding workshops at Delhi & Punjab. I have done some anonymous work for women. I am currently working on a project, that I yet have to announce where in, I want housewives and students to come and help me in doing something for street kids & for the mentally ill. I mention the word ‘ housewives’ as I meet so many who are bored at home and don’t know what to do with their time, once the children go to universities or leave their home. And students are pillars of our country’s strength. I want to grab them young and tell them how important it is to give back to the Earth.
What do you like to do when you’re not writing?
Had you asked my husband or children they would have exploded with one word: FACEBOOK. I do not deny this. I am a restless soul. I find things to do each day even if it means shifting sofas from one corner to another. I do a lot of online counseling. I have children attached to me when they were at school and were fighting over silly things to managers in a bank or MNC’s today in different part of the world. I feel beautiful when people connect with me and I write to them. My biggest strength is communication. I love to stay in touch. I love plants and have green fingers.
Do you have any advice to give to aspiring writers?
You are giving readers food for their soul. Continue writing and the content of your book will touch hearts that needs it. A writer gives a reader her /his time, company and then some things to ponder on. Feel free to express through books. This is your right!
I have tagline which says “One Source, Many Inspirations”, how do you interpret this?
Beautiful!! Without a second thought the words ‘ One source’ reflects to the DIVINE, who is the main provider and then shows us many ways and many people to get inspired from (MANY INSPIRATIONS) by HIS grace that come to our life on our soul journey.
